Director of Commercial Operations


To assist with the positioning of the Company, CMR is now seeking a Director of Commercial Operations. A rare opportunity for an experienced sales professional to lead the launch of a truly innovative surgical robotic system across key markets around the globe, ensuring the Versius™ system attains commercial success.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, target and approach all relevant surgical centres in the key strategic markets
  • Develop and gain endorsement from the leadership team and board of directors of a strategic commercial plan and budget that will lead to a successful product launch
  • Build close and credible relationships with the hospital decision makers (both the key surgeons and their hospital management)
  • Recruit and train a sales team capable of supporting the successful product launch across the identified key strategic markets
  • Sell the Versius™ system to key hospitals by providing outstanding technical advice as well as developing compelling business arguments
  • Increase revenue stream per installed system by the sales of surgical instruments
  • Working with other members of the leadership team, ensure top-class professional education and customer services are provided to hospitals

We're looking for an individual with the following attributes:

  • The successful candidate will need to bring excellent sales skills, preferably of medical devices capital equipment, and already shown success of leading an international launch of a disruptive technology in public and private hospitals.  In particular, we are looking for:
  • A successful leadership track record of at least 8 years in a laparoscopic surgical environment
  • Experience in working in a small company and enjoy being ‘a doer’ in a team rather than a delegator
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills, who can work within the Leadership team to build and manage a clinical launch in a start-up company with a strong innovative technology and adapt to a rapidly changing environment as the company realises its outstanding growth potential
  • The ability to market and sell technically complex capital equipment medical devices in a competitive market. It is crucial that the candidate be able to demonstrate strong technical and surgical knowledge as well as strong business judgement to ultimately convince both the surgeons and hospital administrators of the benefits of the CMR surgical robotic system
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills

 Whilst we are based in Cambridge, we are not necessarily looking to hire a UK based employee, and are open to candidates from continental Europe.
