CMR named in UK’s top 10 business disruptors to watch

CAMBRIDGE, 4 December 2017 | Cambridge Medical Robotics (CMR), the British company developing the next-generation surgical robot, has been named in Virgin Media’s top 10 Business Disruptors in the UK.

Published at the weekend, the 21st annual Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 10 league table identified some of the UK’s most disruptive private companies. The 10 companies are recognised for having a business model, product or service that is creating a new market, or transforming existing markets and rapidly taking market share from competitors.

The list includes companies from a variety of sectors all driven by their innovative thinking, investment in technology and finding new solutions to old problems.

CMR has developed Versius, a surgical robot designed to meet the complex requirements of laparoscopic surgery and has filed more than 100 patents throughout its development.  Versius, inspired by the human arm, has remarkable dexterity, flexibility and reach, to enable a new paradigm in surgical experience and to help CMR achieve its aim of making minimal access surgery available to all.

The award is further testament to a company with a significant growth rate. CMR has more than doubled in size in the last year. It now employs more than 140 people in Cambridge, and expects to grow significantly in 2018.
